Tidak bisa dipungkiri bahwa masuknya Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree sebagai salah satu nominasi pemenang Game of the Year membuat banyak orang bingung dan bertanya-tanya akan kebijaksanaan The Game Awards selaku pihak penyelenggara.
Banyak orang mengutarakan ketidaksetujuannya, mengingat Elden Ring sendiri sudah memenangkan predikat Game of the Year di The Game Awards tahun 2022 lalu, kemudian Shadow of the Erdtree sendiri merupakan konten Expansion Pack atau sejatinya adalah DLC.
Terlepas memang Shadow of the Erdtree sendiri berhasil mendulang banyak respon positif dari para fans, tidak sedikit orang yang merasa keputusan ini terkesan tidak adil, karena seharusnya nominasi Game of the Year diberikan kepada rilisan yang benar-benar berikan pengalaman baru nan segar, dan bukan sekadar konten tambahan.
